There has recently been a debate in parliament led in particular by Rupert Lowe, the former Reform UK Ltd’s MP for Great Yarmouth, backed by a few other MPs he argued not only for cruel Halal slaughter to be banned, but for much better notification on packaging on whether the meat was Halal or not.
As the debate served to show there is no real prospect of getting such legislation through Parliament at present and the British Establishment parties are completely against any such ban. I think we can assume also that Reform is against such a ban, since they did not even trouble to attend the debate!
This does not however mean that there is nothing whatsoever that can be done about Halal slaughter.
The situation that we find ourselves in is that Halal slaughtered meat increasingly pervades schools, universities, restaurants, prisons and even military canteens. For many of the outlets which use Halal meat the primary reason is price, because Halal slaughter and meat is much cheaper than the meat from fully regulated English slaughter houses which do comply with all the regulations about, not only food safety, but also minimising the cruelty to the animals being slaughtered.
Halal slaughter is therefore an increasingly massive loophole in the regulation of slaughter houses.
How have we arrived at this situation?
Well the answer to that is that there has been yet another example of two tier policing. In this case all slaughter of animals in England must comply with all the detailed regulations, including on animal welfare, except slaughter under two religious exemptions. One is for Kosher and the other is for Halal. In both cases the exception to the general rules and regulations is specifically only to provide meat for Jews in the case of Kosher slaughter and Muslims in the case of Halal slaughter. This of course means that neither Kosher, nor Halal, slaughter should not take place to provide meat for non-believers.
So far as Kosher slaughter is concerned, the consumption of Kosher is almost exclusively confined to Jews and therefore there is not a major breach of the Law and regulations as they currently stand as regards to Kosher slaughter.
So far as Halal slaughter is concerned however, the rules have simply not been properly enforced. This is, of course, yet another example of the cowardice and of the multiculturalist ideologically motivated complicity of officials. In this case it is their duty to properly police slaughter houses.
This is a matter where effective action may be possible for those of us who believe in the idea of equality before the Law and also wish to reduce the suffering of slaughtered animals because the Law is clear that Halal slaughter houses should be strictly restricted to slaughter for Muslims only. The responsibility for enforcement lies with local authorities, who have statutory enforcement agencies within the relevant local authorities. As these agency inspectors are failing to do their duty, they can be forced to do so by order of the courts.
A campaign to enforce proper inspection would lead to a dramatic reduction in the numbers of animals slaughtered by the Halal method of throat cutting and bleeding out, of often fully conscious animals. Properly regulated English slaughter houses would also find it easier to continue in business without the unfair competition from a largely unregulated Halal slaughter.
We will however need support from the public to bring such cases.
